Meet Mike Song
Meet Mike Song
As a child, growing up in Torrance, California, Mike Song was inspired
to dance by the likes of American artists such as Michael Jackson and
Usher as well as Korean Pop artists such as HOT and Yoo Seung Jun.
At first, Mike began performing at high school talent shows and pep
rallys. However, when he entered UC irvine in 2004 as an economics
major, he joined Kaba Modern, which changed his life. In a few short
years, he became director of Kaba Modern. During his year as director
in 2007, Kaba Modern won 1st Place in the USA at the Hip Hop
International Championships, and 2nd Place in the World. Mike went
on to represent the team in the first season of MTV's America's Best
Dance Crew. Since then, he has traveled extensively (both domestically
and internationally), to perform and teach. He has also judged and
battled at various dance events. In 2007, Mike won 1st place at the
Annual “In the Spotlight” Battle in Southern California. In 2009, Mike
judged several hip hop competitions such as World of Dance in San
Mateo, Seaquence in Seattle, The Beatdown in Toronto, Bodyrock in
San Diego, and the National Hip Hop Championships in South Africa.
As an instructor, Mike has taught workshops in Australia, South Africa,
Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Finland, Croatia, Holland, Canada, Mexico, Guam, Hawaii, and continues to
travel and teach around the world. He ultimately hopes to inspire others to dance and promote positivity. To
that end, Mike has been a guest speaker at the annual KASCON nationwide student conference and participated
in KCCD's STFU Youth Summit as a guest performer. Mike is represented by Clear Talent Group and is currently
the artistic director of Kaba Modern Legacy and a choreographer/dancer for Culture Shock Los Angeles and
Kallusive Dance Crew.
